For a group of BC farmers, the co-op model allowed their seed business to take root.
Started by 17 dedicated producers, the BC Eco Seed Co-op offers an impressive variety of vegetable, herb, grain, flower, and cover crop seed for both farmers and home gardeners.
Their seed is ecologically grown, open pollinated, and focused on regionally selected varieties that flourish in British Columbia climate, soil conditions, and ecosystems.
“Our members have joined the co-op for a number of reasons, which include being a part of a bigger community and support system, to benefit from shared resources such as equipment and marketing, and as a natural progression of where they are in their journey as a seed farmer,” a co-op representative said.
The goal is to produce seed in the quantities farmers need and to a level of quality they can trust.
Co-operatives First was honored to help fertilize this unique business with a business plan and board workshop. We look forward to seeing the BC Eco Seed Co-op grow and strengthen the organic seed market in BC!
